Biscuits are the small, baked flour-based food products. These are also called a ‘cookie’ or a ‘cracker’ that is available in various salty as well as sweet tastes such as Nice biscuits, chocolate and strawberry biscuits, ginger nuts, custard creams, etc. The word ‘biscuit’ basically means twice-cooked and originally, these food products used to be cooked in a twofold process including baking and drying. In the 14th century during the middle Ages, the term was finally adopted by the English language as bisquite, which meant a hard, twice-cooked product.
Biscuits are usually flat and they are available in a big variety in the market these days. The sandwich-type biscuits have a layer of cream or jam or any other icing sandwiched between the two separate biscuit strips. Custrad cream, jammie Dodgers, Mc Vities are some of them. They are eaten like a snack food, and they make a favorable company with tea and coffee. On the other hand, savoury biscuits or crackers are just plain in taste, yet very slightly sweet. They have a unique flavor (generally salty) and an additional texture that gives them a dedicated section on the shelves of the supermarkets. Animal cracker, apple cider cookie, biscuit roll, bourbon, butter cookie, caramel cookie, Christmas cookies, coconut macaroon, fortune cookies, Oreo, are some famous biscuits for their shapes and taste.
