Pen Drive is a flash memory with an inbuilt (USB) Universal Serial Bus interface which includes a data storage device is known as A USB flash drive. A Pen drive is usually rewritable and removable, and small in size as compared to optical disc. Usually less than 30 grams is the weight. Drives of up to 512 gigabytes were in reach of people by January 2013.in 2013 one (TB) terabyte drive was revealed at the Consumer Electronics Show but was not available in the market; the product got launched later that year. 2 TB Storage capacity is being planned, as a steady change in price and size per capacity is expected. Depending on the type of kind of memory chip used, some permit up to 100,000 erase /write cycles and the shelf storage time of ten years.
They are usually used for the same motive for which CDs or floppy disks were used, i.e., for transfer, back-up and storage of computer files. They are faster, smaller, have more than 1000 times capacity, and are more reliable and durable as they have no moving portions. Most laptops and desktop computers until about 2005 were provided with floppy disk drives in insertion to USB ports, due to their lower capacity floppy disk drives have been abandoned compared to USB flash drives.
