Flat bottomed drinking glasses are generally referred to as tumblers. But in practice, tumbler may refer to any bottomed vessel. The flatness at the bottom of a tumbler distinguishes it from other glassware. Many times, tumblers are used as tableware while serving food. Tumblers are of innumerous types, like Collins glass which is used for holding tall mixed drinks, iced tea glass, juice glass, shot glass which are meant for having liquors, highball glass, whiskey glass etc. All these are categorized as tumblers. However, modern shot glasses have thicker base and sides as compared to the whisky glass which have thin sides.
