Form-fitting elastic clothing that mainly covers the foot and lower part of the leg is called a stocking. The garment is extensively and exclusively worn by females for both fashion and aesthetics. In earlier days, stockings were also referred as hoses. And at that time they were made of woven cloth. Cotton, linen, silk, wool, nylon are the commonly used fabrics for manufacturing stockings. The materials need to be soft and durable. They are often adorned with the usage of garters, lace, appliqués and are often made in such a way that they appear sexually tempting and aesthetically pleasing with a greater exposure of thigh. They are also preferred over pantyhose many times and are considered to be much healthier and cleaner the reason being, stockings are provided with aeration in the crotch area that reduces the fungal and bacterial growth.
Stockings need to be held-up, and there are three ways of doing so. Either by using a garter belt or suspender belt (that is worn around waist region and is most common) or by using stay-ups (bands worn along with the stockings, on the top part), using only a garter will also do. Stockings are in general teamed up with short-length or mid-length skirts (depending upon the choice of the wearer).
